Employment law covers issues related to the relationship between the employer and the employee. Employment law covers employee rights, such as minimum wage, overtime, time off, discrimination and harassment. In addition, the employee is ensured an environment that is not hazardous to the employee's health or safety.

It is important that Human Resource departments be familiar with employment laws, as it addresses how a company may hire and fire workers, as well as what personal information the department may and may not ask of the employee.
